Most days when my daughter comes home, I ask her, “Was there any drama in school today?” And most days she says, “No”. But somedays there is drama. This week, our conversation lasted quite awhile as she told me about four kids who got in trouble after recess. The teacher gave them a “practice round” to make things better. Three of the four kids weren’t having that and started to argue and yell. Things went down hill from there, but it was an opportunity for us to talk about how to handle hard situations. We talked about how hard it is to find unity because we keep getting into fights. I even tried to bring up last weekend’s sermon about conflict resolution, but she said…
“Dad, are we done talking now? This is getting kind of boring for me.”
“Yes honey, we’re done.”
Last week, I shared the benefits of UNITY from being apart of God’s family in the Worship Arts ministry. You can catch them (and the free print off) here. But let’s face it. Unity is not just hard for kids. It’s just as hard for adult. So I want to give you another way to bring unity to your life with other believers: praying scripture. I think this is a powerful way to read and experience God’s Word. All I’ve done is print scripture verses pertaining to unity and then written a short prayer underneath to help you live it out.
Praise God who through the Holy Spirit gives us unity of mind in the gospel of Jesus. Praise Him that he doesn’t leave us separated in sin, but builds us up to serve each other in love.
I pray these 6 prayers will encourage you and help you find unity in the faith…
How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!
Praise God for the unity of God’s people that only comes from Him.
…the hand of God was on the people to give them unity of mind…
Pray that you God would bring you unity of thought with other believers
I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
Pray that you would find your identity in Jesus and that you would find unity with others through the gospel.
Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to give you the grace and love to find unity with other believers. Pray that you and the other believers around you would find peace through Jesus.
So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
Pray for the people you know who work in the church. Pray for your local church that all the believers there would grow in their knowledge of Jesus becoming more like him in every way.
And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Pray that you would be filled with love, which is greater than even faith and hope. Pray that your love would unify you with the other believers you meet today.
