We have recently hired a new Worship Tech Director. She started this week and is still getting used to the office and getting to know people. So we are thrilled to announce that you will have a chance to meet Michala Halstead starting this weekend as she starts her new role. I asked her a few questions so that we can get to know her better…
Thanks! I want to thank the staff at Emmanuel for welcoming me with open arms. I am happy to be belong to a great community and to be apart of this ministry. I look forward to meeting more friendly faces.
Ok, let’s get to know you a little bit. Who have been the most influential people in your life?
The most influential people in my life are my parents. My dad has instilled motivation and good ethics. My mom has instilled positivity and charisma. Together, they have shown me that you can achieve anything you put hard work and determination into.
So who’s your favorite Christian artist or songwriter right now?
There are so many choices because they’re all so great but Group 1 Crew would be my favorite right now.
…just for fun–Favorite 90’s song? (or maybe we should say ’2000s now?)
“You’re Still The One” by Shania Twain.
That’s great. I haven’t heard Shania for awhile now. Let’s change gears. How did God lead you to work at ECC in the tech ministry?
I believe that God has plan for everyone from the beginning. I have been serving up until this point as a volunteer and have been taking on more responsibility. Leading the tech ministry, I knew I would be able to not only spread my knowledge for technology but also be involved in a community where everyone helps each person grow spiritually. I have been able to flourish through the influence of others, in return I want to help others prosper.
Without thinking…favorite book of the Bible or favorite verse?
2 Timothy 2:22 It’s always a great reminder how to serve our Lord. “Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.“
Why don’t you describe your devotions. When do you spend time w/ God?
I used to solely pray about troubling times and asking for God’s guidance. Recently, I try to start my devotions with appreciation for the things in life I’ve been blessed another day with having because those events are rare. The greatest time for prayer, for me, is at night when my mind is heaviest. I know each struggle is my path made out by God. Daily, I try to spend time with God, whether I am praying at night, or looking at the night sky and appreciating the awe and wonder of God’s miracles.
What books are you currently reading in these categories: for learning and fun?
For fun, I currently read two of John Green’s books, “The Fault In Our Stars” and “Paper Towns.” For learning, I am reading a book titled, “In The Studio With Michael Jackson” by Bruce Swedien who was Michael Jackson’s producer and co-creator of his hit song, “Thriller.”
What’s the best book you’ve read that has helped you grow as a believer?
It’s called “The Road Ahead” by Hayley Dimarco. I read it back in high school; I actually read it the other day while looking for advice. It talks about the temptations in the world as a young adult and it helps readers try to view many situations from a more divine perspective.
So, what single bit of counsel has made the most significant difference in your life?
“It’s all about having faith.” I was heavily influenced by these words my freshman year of high school and these words have now become my motto. Having faith, to me, means that every decision I make is based on God’s best judgments and knowing he will guide me through his perspective.
What else do you do for fun?
I love to play on the piano. I’m terrible at sight-reading so I mostly play songs I have memorized or short pieces I’ve composed. I am also a Madame Ant, which are the cheerleaders for the Mad Ants Basketball team. This season is currently my third year. Additionally, this past year I have been getting more knowledgeable about sports such as snowboarding, supercross, and football.
Thanks for sharing with us. I’m looking forward to seeing what God has for us over this next 6 months!
